Couple of weeks ago  Apple said that it was close to reaching 50 billion downloads mark in it App Store, today they have crossed the threshold of 50 billion downloads. Apple’s App Store was launched  five years ago in July 2008.

The App Store reached the 10 billionth download in January of 2011, followed by 25 billion in March 2012.In just over a year since its 25 billion milestone, Apple’s App Store was able to double the number of downloads to reach the 50 billion mark.

Apple is gifting a US $10,000 App Store gift card to the user who downloads the 50 billionth app, with 50 runner ups receiving a $500 card.

At this speed, Apple’s App Store is now at over 20 billion downloads per year or over 50 million per day. It remains quite remarkable that five years after launch, the App Store is still seeing such tremendous growth.
