PC Maker Dell Considering Going Private, In Talks With Private Equity Firms After A Dull Fourth Quarter

Dell, is considering going private and is in buyout talks with at least two private equity firms according to Bloomberg. Dell has lost over 33% of it’s value in the past year.

Dell’s profits were down 34% year-over-year, revenue went down 7% year-over-year. “Tablets have dramatically changed the device landscape for PCs, not so much by ‘cannibalising’ PC sales, but by causing PC users to shift consumption to tablets rather than replacing older PCs,” Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa told Reuters.

“The stock has not done much, and he’s under pressure to boost numbers,” said Abhey Lamba, an analyst at Mizuho Securities USA Inc. “He wants to de-emphasize about two-thirds of his business, and that’s a hard strategy to push because it would mean overall revenue will shrink.”
