Apple Sold 5 Million iPhones in First Three Days, 100 Million iOS6 Downloads

Apple on Monday released a statement on the sales figure of its latest iteration of iPhone, the first weekend sales of the iPhone 5 topped five million, beating the opening weekend for the iPhone 4S nearly by one million units, in the first three days.

iOS 6, the mobile operating system run by the iPhone 5 and available to other iPhones, Apple added, has now been downloaded more than 100 million times.

The  record setting weekend for Apple wasn’t enough to please Wall Street, shares opened down more than 2% as the weekend sales figures fell short of analysts’ expectations.

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”
