Yahoo has announced the launch of a cleaner, faster and more social version of Yahoo Mail. Blake Irving, Yahoo’s executive vice president and chief products officer, launched the new design at Yahoo’s headquarters here during an event  called “Product Runway.”

Yahoo said that its 281 million Yahoo Mail users will start seeing the new design in the next few weeks as it rolls out an opt-in beta version of the service, which is one of the key drivers of traffic to Yahoo’s array of news and entertainment Web sites.

Yahoo is making an effort to make it email service  more social by integrating social media products. Yahoo is giving its mail users the ability to update their statuses on Facebook and Twitter. The “What’s New” tab also lets you see your friends’ updates from Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.
