Google gives a facelift to Gmail’s contacts

Gmail’s contacts manager had a outdated and jaded look and a cumbersome functionality – but, that’s history now. Google has given a makeover to the UI ( user interface) of Gmail. Major changes are done to the contacts manager with keyboard shortcuts support and custom labels for phone numbers. Some of the newly added features include keyboard shortcuts, custom labels, sorting by last name, and autosave.

Gmail now clubs Mail, Contacts and Tasks together on the top left corner. Users can hide the Contacts and Tasks option by clicking on the right edge of the Mail option. Compose Mail now appears as a button and not as a link.

“An improved Contacts interface has been the number one requested feature from user feedback.” wrote Benjamin Grol, Gmail product manager on Google’s blog.
