Goodbye Google Wave

Google Wave

Google Wave

Last year at Google I/O, Google has launched Google Wave, a web app for real time communication and collaboration, it set a high bar for what was possible in a web browser (character-by-character live typing, and the ability to drag-and-drop files from the desktop). Google said yesterday that they “don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product,” though the code for it will remain available as open source.

Google Wave – true to its name – has showed a characterstic of sea wave with its spectacular rate of its rise and fall. It was easily one of the most hyped products of 2009, but within months of its launch, the buzz had almost completely disappeared. It might’ve been more successful had it been integrated into Gmail, though Google hasn’t had much success with Buzz in that department either.
