Microsoft’s Kin hand held range of social networking devices targeted at teens and young adults was released six weeks ago in U.S , it will be discontinued by Microsoft due to abysmal sales. Trade reports reported that Microsoft sold only 500 around Kins, this wasnt denied or confirmed by the Redmond company, but it’s clear that the response has been lukewarm.
In an email to Information Week Microsoft said “We are integrating our Kin team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from Kin into future Windows Phone releases,”
The Kin range included two handsets, the Kin One and the Kin Two, both of were available on the Verizon network in U.S. The phones were expected to receive a U.K. launch soon which now seems to have been canceled. Instead, Microsoft will be focusing more on its more important Windows Phone 7 platform, expected to be out later this year.
