Update Your Google Nexus One Manually

If like us, you’re too impatient to wait for Google to roll-out the latest Nexus One patch to your phone, you can install the update manually. It’s quite a simple process (you don’t need to ‘root’ your phone), and all the instructions can be found below:

Download the official patch from google.

  • Rename the downloaded file to update.zip
  • Plug in phone via USB and Mount the device
  • Copy update.zip to memory card’s root directory
  • Shut down phone
  • Hold down the track ball and turn on the phone
  • In the bootloader, use the volume up/down buttons to scroll through the menus and press the power button to select
  • Select Bootloader > Recovery
  • Now that the phone is in Recovery mode, hold down the power button and tap volume up to load the menu
  • In Recover mode we use the trackball to navigate (instead of volume/power)
  • Select the update.zip (press the trackball)
  • Once the update has completed, reboot the phone

That’s it! Your N1 is now up to date.
