12seconds becomes more social

Web startup 12seconds caused a bit of a stir last year when they launched a cool (but gimmicky) video service. The idea was that people record 12 second video clips directly on their site (via Flash). There 12second clips could then be commented on by other people, and submitted like an RSS feed to Twitter, your blog and all the usual social media links.

Now 12seconds are taking a fresh twist on things. The new approach is more linked directly with Twitter. There’s no need to register on the website anymore, you can log in with your Twitter credentials. If you already have an account, you can link your Twitter. Videos will now be real-time, with a live twitter feed – so you can see @replies, like a live-commenting system.

It’s only a couple of weeks ago that 12seconds announced their ‘Sign in with Facebook’ feature, after adding Facebook Connect. This is all very cool to us, a step forward for social sites, but maybe not nescessarily in the right direction – If more sites used openID, we wouldn’t need features like this.
