Customized Google page

Google which gained its initial fame for its search, always had a simple and basic search page unlike personalization features which are available for iGoogle, Gmail and others, Google has changed that and has added more Bing ( oops bling) and color to its Search page by giving the option of adding a image to the background. Users can now choose any photo or image and add it to the background of google.com . The rollout starts over the next few days.

It is debatable whether this new feature  is inspired and created to counter its rival Microsoft’s Bing search engine which changes photo on its homepage daily.Bing does not let users use a custom picture,  but it’s an eye-pleasing addition to the page and one that Google was sure to have noticed.

“Today, we’re introducing a new feature that brings a whole new level of personalization to Google by letting you add a favorite photo or image to the background of the Google homepage. You can choose a photo from your computer, your own Picasa Web Album or a public gallery hosted by Picasa which includes a selection of beautiful photos.” said Marissa Mayer, VP Search Products & User Experience.
