Apple iAds will revolutionise mobile advertising

Apple release of it’s own ad network iAds is the clearest signal that mobile advertising has reached a tipping point. Watch this segment grow up fast and become hugely influential in the future role of digital and traditional marketing.

iTunes in my mind has evolved Apple into so much more than a technology company. iTunes now sits at the very core of the distribution business model that Apple have either cleverly engineered or luckily continue to develop to meet their business ambitions. The iPod ensured we all downloaded iTunes and iTunes created the walled marketplace we enjoy today, allowing us to download films, music, apps and more.

The iPhone’s continued success can largely be attributed because of the many thousands of apps that became available. These apps provided Apple with innovation, increased iPhone sales and an additional revenue stream. Now they are set to turn Apple into a true mobile advertising network which in return is going to set this sector a blaze.

Why? because if Steve Jobs is to be believed “iAd offers advertisers the emotion of TV with the interactivity of the web, and offers users a new way to explore ads without being hijacked out of their favourite apps. iAds will reach millions of iPhone and iPod Touch users, a highly desirable demographic for advertisers, and provide developers a new way to earn money so they can continue developing free and low-cost applications.” Looks this is a sustainable business model to me: Great ad solutions, delivered to a valuable audience, through a self perpetuating network in a mobile monopolistic walled garden.

$60 million prelaunch sales already shows that advertisers believe that iAds is an serious opportunity.
