FarmVille, Facebook’s most widely used application has added the Facebook Credits payment option. In fact, Facebook Credits is now the default payment option in FarmVille and it comes in 2 variants – Farm Cash and Farm Coins.

Facebook Credits, the virtual currency floated by Facebook has been very popular amongst the developer community as well as gamers. It’s a win-win situation for developers as well as Facebook, as Facebook gets a 30% share of the Credits revenue while developers can offer additional payment methods and reach out to a wider audience.

The company behind many popular Facebook apps including FarmVille has been rather selective in adding Facebook Credits to its games so far. While it has included Credits in PetVille and Pirates: Rule the Caribbean, it has decided to exclude others like Café World.

There’s no doubt that the popularity and success of Facebook depends hugely on the apps. Though ‘Facebook Credits’ has a long way to go, its integration in FarmVille is a testimony to its growing popularity and enormous potential for social media applications.
